About Me

I'm Rig.
I've lived in a few places, and each one left its mark. These days I call Melbourne home, and I keep the rest of the map to myself.
What I do
I work in tech, and I've done it for most of my adult life. I started on the hands-on side with firewalls, routers and phone systems. From there I moved into big, noisy environments. For about five years I helped run the network at one of Australia's largest stadiums, with hundreds of Wi-Fi access points and thousands of screens, where "it just has to work on game day" was the whole job. Later came schools, a stint leading a team of service engineers, and a few years around professional video and networking gear. These days I sit between customers and engineers, working out what people actually need and how to build it properly. I like systems that are quiet, tidy and hard to break.
Behind the lens
Back in New Zealand, I shot motorsport on the side. I covered track racing and drift competitions for brands and companies, and for myself, so I'd have the frames to keep. Now and then I took on a feature shoot for friends and customers who wanted their cars to look as good on camera as they did in the garage. Motorsport teaches you to anticipate. The shot happens a half-second before everyone else sees it, and I've been chasing that instinct ever since.
Off the clock
I tinker. I keep a small lab of services and experiments running that I don't talk about much. I'm picky about sound and gear, I love anything that packs small and works well, and I disappear into the bush for a night of camping when the screen time gets too much. The quiet is the point.
I keep most of my life off this page, and I like it that way. If you found your way here, say hello.
